BIOGRAPHY

Composer and pianist, with a master’s and a doctor’s degree both from the University of California, and a post-doctorate course at the University of Keele, England, she was professor of composition at the Federal Rio de Janeiro University School of Music, from 1987 throught 2002. While teaching in the university, she founded, in 1989, the Grupo Música Nova, which was responsible for the premiere of over one hundred contemporary Brazilian compositions. Some of her work has been recorded and played abroad, on occasions and venues such as the Sonidos de las Americas Festival (Carnegie Hall), the Unesco International Composers Tribune and the Brasilianischer Musik festival at Karlsruhe. Has been commissioned to write for projects such as Sala Cecilia Meireles, the São Paulo State Symphonic Orchestra (Osesp), the Banco do Brasil Cultural Center, the New Music Festival of São Paulo/Santos. In 1999, she was awarded an Arts Vitae scholarship which allowed her to complete the composition entitled O (In)dizível.
