BIOGRAPHY
Violinist Luiz Amato is a native of São Paulo, Brazil. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of São Paulo. He studied at the New England Conservatory, where he completed the master’s degree and the Graduate Diploma. Luiz Amato also won a full scholarship for the DMA course at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he was a member of the Young Artists String Quartet, the string quartet in residence at the music department. After completing the Doctoral program, he returned to Brazil in 1996, where he was the concertmaster of the São Paulo City Orchestra, Manaus Symphony and Jazz Sinfônica. He was also a member of The São Paulo City String Quartet and São José dos Campos String Quartet. Today he is teaching at the Universidade Estadual Paulista. Currently, Luiz is part of Grupo Quintal Brasileiro with 4 CDs recorded. Amolafaca, the last one, was placed 1st in the Classical Music edict promoted by the São Paulo State Department of Culture (ProAC) and launched in 2019. Former Artistic Director of the UNESP Chamber Orchestra, Luiz is a violin teacher at the Instituto of Arts at UNESP.
