BIOGRAPHY
He was a pianist in a society orchestra while studying architecture and working as designer. At the same time he composed pieces for the piano. In 1914 he entered the National Institute of Music of Rio de Janeiro, where he studied piano with Henrique Oswald and harmony with Agnelo França. He perfected in piano with Abdon Milanez and in harmony with Darius Milhaud. He was a musical reviewer, pianist, ethnomusicologist, professor and conductor. He founded the Glauco Velásquez Society (1914), the Pro-Arte Choral Society (1924) and the Brazilian Association of Music (1930). Published the Folklore Studies, edited by Mário de Andrade and “The Mission of Brazilian Musicians of Today”, among other articles.
