BIOGRAPHY

He was an instrumentalist in several jazz and popular music ensembles until 1967, when he became first bassoonist of the Federal University of Bahia Symphonic Orchestra (UFBA) and intensified his work as a composer. He graduated in composition at UFBA where he also worked as a choral, instrumentation, improvisation and composition professor. He was awarded around 18 national and international prizes with his compositions, among them Kyrie-Christe, winner of the Musical Composition Contest of the Goethe Institute of Brazil in 1971 and published in Germany. He was founder member of the Group of Composers of Bahia (1971-89), of the Brazilian Contemporary Music Society and a member of the Brazilian Academy of Music (seat No. 33). He is the author of the book Causos de Músico (Musician’s Stories), a music education method with several arrangements and compositions designed for the cinema, performances and didactical purposes.
