BIOGRAPHY

He began studying piano at the age of 6, at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro. He also studied in Lausanne (Switzerland) and later the United States of America, composition with Paul Glass, orchestration with Albert Harris and Hugo Friedrhopper, soundtracks with Lalo Schifrin and David Raskin, and conducting with Roy Rogosin. Author of numerous hit songs, in partnership with Chico Buarque, Vinicius de Moraes, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Paulinho da Viola, Milton Nascimento among others. He has written scores for film and theater, recorded CDs and DVDs of his work from which he has received many awards. Since the 1980s, he has also composed symphonic works such as Symphony No. 1, Fantasia for Piano and Orchestra, the Symphony of Rio de Janeiro in São Sebastião.
